Mavericks Star Luka Doncic Rips His Jersey Hulk Hogan-Style [Video]

Dallas Mavericks All-Star sophomore Luka Doncic is enjoying an MVP-caliber season in 2019-20, but even the best have their bad days.

The Mavericks fell 129-114 to the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. Doncic, however, can't take too much of the blame for the Mavericks' shortcomings. He finished the contest 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

But Doncic had a frustrating night at the free throw line, making just 8-of-13 attempts (61.5) percent. To put that into perspective, Doncic has made 79.4 percent of his free throws this season -- and he's up to 74.5 percent for his career.

Doncic didn't hold back his frustration during the second quarter, either. The 20-year-old proceeded to rip his jersey Hulk Hogan-style, much to the delight of the ESPN commentary team.

Hogan, a WWE Hall of Famer, always fired up the crowd by tearing his shirt in half before his matches -- often throwing it in the audience for a fan souvenir. But Doncic was smarter than that, probably knowing that he would have received a fine.

Of course, Hogan did this as part of his wrestling character/act. It's not uncommon to see athletes angry, but you almost never see them pull off the iconic Hogan shirt-ripping gesture.

After the game, Dwight Howard of the Lakers called Doncic's actions "understandable," via Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com. Howard also admitted that other players feel the desire "to rip our jerseys."

As for Doncic, the sophomore standout acknowledged that he's "competitive," and that he "can get better." The Mavericks host the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night in a marquee showdown that features some of the game's elite young superstars.

Doncic is averaging 29.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game this season. Heading into Saturday night, the Mavericks are sixth in the Western Conference with a 23-15 record, though they're only three games behind the Utah Jazz for the No. 4 seed.
