Daniel Craig Reveals What Store He Went To After Scoring 'James Bond'
Daniel Craig, known for his tuxedo and martini glass as mysterious spy James Bond, visited the Tonight Show last night. He chatted it up with host Jimmy Fallon in honor of National James Bond Day and had a few stories to share. One of them included having to keep his lip zipped after finding out he'd become the newest Bond in 2006.
Don't Tell A Soul
When Craig first found out he landed his role in Casino Royale, he wasn't allowed to tell anyone. He recounted to Fallon, "I was in Baltimore filming with Nicole Kidman. Barbara Broccoli, one of the producers of the Bond's said to me, 'Over to you kiddo!' But this is the thing, I was in Baltimore, I had a night off (and) a day off the following day. I was like, 'What am I going to do? I can't tell anybody.'"
Fallon looked astonished as Craig continued, "...Was like don't tell a soul, don't tell your family," Craig then flailed his arms a bit to demonstrate his excitement mixed with angst at the time. While one may assume he'd hop over to the nearest Burberry and treat himself for such an accomplishment, he had a more organic idea in mind.
Whole Foods Celebration
"I was in Whole Foods Supermarket literally with a shopping cart with deodorant and washing liquid, doing my weekly shopping. So I literally ditched that and walked into the liquor section. I bought myself a bottle of vodka, a bottle of Vermouth, a shaker, and a glass," Craig told in expressive detail. Nailing one of the most coveted roles of all-time calls for the character's signature drink.
"This is the thing and you may not believe this," Craig revealed to Fallon, "I'd never had a martini before. I kind of understood what it was like, 'I'm going to give this a go,'"
Craig told a quick anecdote of when he visited Chicago and tried a sip of a martini, and thought it just tasted like vodka. The whole, "it's very dry," concept made him laugh and recall how he drank half the bottle of vodka and went to a local Baltimore bar to celebrate more alone until he could let the secret out.
