Carrie Fisher Regretted Opening Up About Harrison Ford Affair

The brother of late Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher is opening up about his sister in his new memoir, My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie. Todd Fisher put pen to paper to share his experiences growing up with his mother, Debbie Reynolds, and his sister— going into detail about Fisher's life on Star Wars. According to the 60-year-old actor and director, his sister deeply regretted opening up about her affair with her co-star, Harrison Ford.

Fisher divulged in her 2016 biography that she and Ford enjoyed a three-month affair while filming the original Star Wars movie in 1976. At the time of the romance, Fisher was just 19, while Ford was an already married father of two. Fisher, who played the iconic Princess Leia, described the affair as "intense" when it started after a birthday party for the director George Lucas. The pair were under no illusions that it would turn into a serious relationship, despite Fisher admitting that she did try to make the Indiana Jones star love her. When filming ended, so did the affair.

According to her brother, the pair were just acting on a mutual attraction. He goes on to detail how their mother first heard about the affair when Carrie was writing The Princess Diarist and advised her daughter to leave out such a personal story. Going against her mom's advice, Carrie left it in, only to regret it later. "What Harrison and everyone else may not know is that Carrie went to mom right after the book became such a big deal and said, 'You were right, I shouldn't have told that story.' For what it's worth, Harrison, she really did regret telling the story of that affair," writes Todd.

The producer also goes into detail about the painful passing of his mother and sister within a day of each other in 2016. He describes getting the call from Carrie's assistant telling him that the actress suffered a heart attack on a plane and had been rushed to the hospital. Her daughter Billie Lourd made the decision to take her mother off of life support several days later. A day later, Debbie Reynolds was talking to her son at her home when she told him she wanted to be with Carrie. Moments later, she died of a brain hemorrhage.

"She willed herself right off this planet to personally see to it that Carrie would never be alone," Todd says.
